What are Fitflops and Do They Work?

The birth of the Fit flop brought a cheer from many women around the world as they promised comfortable footwear that gave your body a workout as you walked
Founder of Bliss Spa and one time personal trainer Marcia Kilgore thought about the daily schedule of the average modern woman and found that they all had one thing in common – they did a lot of walking. So she designed a shoe to do their exercise for them and enlisted two biomechanists – Dr David Cook and Darren James, from the Center for Human Performance at London’s Southbank University, to help her. Two years later the Fitflop was born.
In 2007 the Fitflop began to appear in magazines and newspapers and they hit major fame when Oprah featured them in her ‘Favorite Summer Things’ list in 2008.

So What does the Fitflop do?
Fans of the Fitflop have claimed that the shoes have helped them to achieve firmer feeling bottoms and thighs, improved posture, relief from lower back pain, knee pain, and plantar foot pain (particularly heel spurs and plantar fasciitis). Most people also report that once they have worn a Fitflop nothing else seems to be quite as comfortable.
  How does the Fitflop Work?
FitFlop footwear is biomechanically engineered to help tone and tighten your leg muscles while you walk in them. They feature patent-pending muscle-loading Microwobbleboard™ technology and have been approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association – APMA.
Fitflops relieve the pressure on the balls and heel of the feet which is where the most pressure usually falls when walking. This has the effect of both making your muscles have to work harder whilst also relieving pressure on various areas of your feet, back and legs. They realign ground reaction force towards your core, helping alleviate back, pelvis and knee stress. They also help to tone bums and thighs by making thigh and bottom muscles work harder when doing the everyday activity of walking.
  The Fitflop Range
Fitflops gained many fans very quickly but their use was mainly limited to the warmer months. Luckily they now come, not only in flipflop styles but also as shoes and boots. They are available for men, women and children.
Celebrity Fans of the FitflopFitflops may not be the most attractive footwear but their comfort and practical benefits have helped to gather a small collection of celebrity fans including:
  Oprah Winfrey
  Mischa Barton
  Hilary Swank
  Heidi Klum
  Jennifer Garner
  Jessica Biel
